It is a little hot in here, or is it just me? Right now, most of the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing some of the worst heat waves on record. From Houston to Des Moines to New York, the entire U.S. is currently sheltering in place next to their air conditioning units. Meanwhile, in Europe, thousands of people have died due to the continent's inexperience and lack of infrastructure to cope with extremely hot temperatures.

In Greece and Spain, wildfires started by a range of causes have been able to burn uncontrollably due to the fertile wildfire conditions that climate change has created over the past decade or more. England reached an all-time historic high of 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and in a country where structures are built to retain heat it’s been an incredibly dangerous time for the elderly and the disabled communities.

It would be nice if this global slow motion car accident had a silver lining - in a more sane and reasonable world our leaders might even take the dangerous weather as the flashing red warning light that it is and actually do something. Unfortunately, based on the direction of global efforts to mitigate climate change, this may be one of the coldest summers for the rest of our lives. Although Biden has undertaken some executive orders aimed at combatting this global catastrophe, he has stopped short of using his full authority. Allegedly, this is in order to goad Joe Manchin into tackling climate change legislatively, but we’re not holding our breath that Senator Coal Baron is going to come around any time soon.
