DACA Hangs in the Balance, What Can Congress or Biden Do?

What’s happening to the more than 600,000 “dreamers” currently protected by DACA? DACA is “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” and refers to the Obama era program which provides a legal immigration status to folks who were brought into the United States at a very young age and are in good legal standing. It was a hard-fought grassroots victory from the immigrant rights movement and ultimately passed via an Obama Executive Order. We brought Erika Andiola, an immigrant rights activist and former Chief Advocacy offer for RAICES to discuss the current court holdups surrounding this policy that is crucial to so many.

Trump attempted to end DACA during his tenure in office, however the courts decided that this wasn’t done via the proper channels, so they halted his termination of the program. DACA has been limping along ever since, even now that Trump is out of office and Obama’s former veep is in.
