Are they starting to realize that there are consequences for advocating and voting for policies that make people’s lives worse? Ever since the Supreme Court destroyed a woman’s right to privacy and an abortion, Republicans have been seeing a backlash at the ballot box that’s causing a few members to rethink their “strongly held’ belief that abortion is murder. They’ve also heard from constituents about the real-world consequences of their retrograde stance.
In South Carolina, Republican Neil Collins very publicly declared that the anti-choice law he supported (!) is incredibly harmful to people who are trying to have a baby and who may have miscarried, something that happens all the time. While it’s nice that someone can see the consequences of their actions, it does feel like it’s too little too late. Now that the chickens have come home to roost with someone he actually knows, suddenly everything becomes real. What about all the people he doesn’t know who’ve suffered under these policies? Will he fight the law he advocated for?
