YouTube Description
as posted by the channelWhat would happen if Dems withheld hurricane funding from red states, like Republicans do to blue ones? As the U.S. assesses the massive damage in Florida wrought by Hurricane Ian, we cannot help but reflect on the fact that Republicans from Florida seem to think that the only people who deserve hurricane relief are Floridians.
Marco Rubio has been doing the rounds on cable lately, talking about the need for federal relief for folks affected by Hurricane Ian. As he’s been campaigning for this aid, he’s also been met with some skepticism due to his previous no votes against hurricane relief after Sandy, which had a huge impact on the entire east coast. At the time, Rubio claimed that the relief bills are loaded with “pork,” a political term for corruption, citing that there were funds to repair a library roof in there and that it didn’t belong (but, in fact, the roof was damaged by the storm).
Rubio isn’t the only Republican thirsty for federal aid that has previously voted against exactly this type of package in the past. Even Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who essentially voted against the same relief packages that Rubio did,has been pushing for more federal assistance. It’s been another magnificent display of the very real idea that Republicans have: “if it’s relief for me, it’s well deserved; If it’s relief for other people, it’s a handout.” Socialism for the rich and red, capitalism for the rest.
