We’ve seen how powerful the world cup can be: it has stopped civil wars, brought people together, and even made bitter geopolitical foes into unlikely comrades. Let’s use it for its full potential: settling any and every international dispute.
Every four years, almost always in the summer, the world slows down for about a month while countries from around the world participate in the most watched sporting event in the globe: The World Cup. This year, the cup is taking place in Qatar, thanks to an ungodly amount of bribery and despite Qatar using literal slave labor to build their stadiums and more or less outlawing any expression of solidarity with queer people in a country in which they’re totally ostracized.
Here are a few conflicts to settle this way:
France V Senegal -- If Senegal wins, it gets to restructure France's economy and force the French to use dollars.
Australia V England -- If England wins, Australia has to put King Charles on their flag.
Brazil V Portugal -- If Portugal loses, it has to change the name of Lisbon to Lisbrazil, and also pay reparations for slavery.
