YouTube Description
as posted by the channelHas the pandemic moved the Overton Window towards universal healthcare? The traditional understanding of health, for government bureaucracies and the insurance industry, is the goal of having an ample supply of able-bodied workers who are ready to sell their labor. This week we were joined by Beatrice Adler-Bolton, co-host of the Death Panel podcast and author of Health Communism: A Surplus Manifesto, to discuss the shifting politics of healthcare.
Medicare for all has been an existentially mobilizing issue for many grassroots political activists (which has been embodied and championed by people like Bernie Sanders and other progressive leaders) for many years now. As the price of healthcare has exploded over the past 30 years of deregulation and consolidation, healthcare consumers (AKA people) have become enraged by the cost of life-saving and necessary treatment, even as it entrenches and embeds itself deeper and deeper into American life.
Beatrice AdlerBolton is cohost of the Death Panel podcast about the political economy of health and author of Health CommunismA Surplus Manifesto out now through Verso.
