Hate migrants? Stop burning fossil fuels

The climate crisis is ongoing, but it’s not over until it’s over, and a better world is possible. For the past 40 years, the American constructed and led global power structures have struggled to cope with the imminent and immediate effects of a changing climate. In 2015, Europe saw a large increase in the number of refugees fleeing Syria, Turkey, and elsewhere, and the crisis proved very instructive on how the centers of power will deal with the ripple effects.

According to many, the United States has proved to be the major roadblock on the path to greater international cooperation in reducing carbon outputs, and also subsidizing over exploited nations of the global south in their own transition. Even with a more amenable Joe Biden as President, the United States seems hellbent on containing the rise of China through overt military acts and covert economic warfare, when instead these two great powers could be working towards sustainable solutions to existential problems.
