The United States is unique among western colonial powers for having zero guaranteed paid family medical leave, as well as having zero sick leave, and it was only about 50 years ago that women even won the right to not be discriminated against because they’re pregnant. That being said, the total lack of a social safety net isn’t even the weirdest thing about being a parent in the United States.
Despite marketing to the contrary, society is generally very hostile to children and very hostile to parents. No allowances are made for parents, and children are expected to behave themselves perfectly whenever they’re in public, lest someone make a plane land because a baby is crying just a bit too much (as happened recently).
