According to a whistleblower, Texas troopers employed by Greg Abbott’s border patrol were told to push immigrants back into the river and deny people water in record breaking heat.
“The wire and barrels in the river needs to be taken out as this is nothing but an inhumane trap in high water and low visibility,” he also wrote. Wait… the what? Yep, the barbed wire being used as a trap against children and families crossing the border. This summer a pregnant woman was caught in the wire and had a miscarriage as emergency responders took her to the hospital.
That same day, a four-year-old girl passed out from heat exhaustion as she attempted to cross the border in over 100 degree heat while being denied water. Texas national guard soldiers pushed her back towards Mexico.
In observance of these and countless other instances, the whistleblower said, “I believe we have stepped over a line into the inhumane.”
