YouTube Description
as posted by the channelDo you remember Kamala’s line delivered to Guatemalan migrants back in 2021?
In her first foreign trip as Vice President, she stated to the Guatemalan people: "I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come. Do not come." Since then that phrase has haunted the White House's immigration policy. It can also be seen as a larger lack of engagement with Latin American countries while further militarizing our southern border.
Meanwhile, the administration also seems to be lacking in their relationship to Latin America. While several Latin American countries elected left-wing leaders in their ‘pink tide,’ the US is falling behind and China is picking up the slack. Last year, at the Summit of the Americas, a number of leaders refused to attend after the US excluded Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua from the conference.
Despite what rightwingers would have you think, the Biden administration is not making friends with the socialists to the south, nor are we opening the borders. Mexico’s president even called for Biden "to do away with this abandonment, this disdain and this forgetfulness for Latin America and the Caribbean." How should the president be engaging with the rest of the Americas?
