Couple and co-stars Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher recently have gone viral for filming an apology video. As many other apology videos, it hasn’t gone over well. The two filmed themselves in front of a quaint corner of the multi-million dollar property and put on their best ‘sorry’ faces to apologize for writing letters of support for Danny Masterson.
Masterson was recently sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for multiple accounts of rape. In a letter to the judge, Kutcher called Masterson a "role model" and "an extraordinarily honest and intentional human being." Mila and Ashton made sure not defend the letters but rather stated that somehow now they stand “every single person who has ever been a victim of sexual assault, sexual abuse or rape."
Granted, letters of support a confusing part of the legal system as they are acquired before sentencing. However, in any case the any letter doesn’t have to call someone a ‘role model’ or imply a persons innocence (as in a jury trial the judge doesn’t have a part in deciding someone’s guilt or innocence).
Maybe the lesson here is don’t defend a rapist, or at least not on legal documents.
