House speaker Kevin McCarthy has unilaterally opened an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden over…. well, it’s not exactly clear. Is it Hunter Biden using his Dad’s name to lab a job on a Ukranian gas company? Was there bribery? Despite what they’d tell you, Republicans have no evidence that the president was involved in landing that business for his son Hunter or participated in it in any way. In that vein, most Americans don’t think an impeachment inquiry into Biden is relevant, and another poll conducted in August found that 52 percent of Americans oppose doing it.
According to The New York Times, in 2019, Mr. Biden repeatedly said he had “never discussed” and had “never spoken to” his son about his business deals, and Republicans have yet to produce evidence that he was ever informed about specific transactions.
But the digging into Hunter Biden’s other charges might ding the current president as he seeks re-election. A recent poll found that 46 percent of voters say the president’s son’s felony gun charges make them less likely to vote for Joe Biden in 2024. But nearly the same amount of people, 47 percent say that the indictments against Trump make them less likely to vote for him.
All in all it seems like this impeachment is just a partisan revenge fantasy with no substance whatsoever.
