Francesca and her guests break down the news of the week: Republicans trying to oust Kevin McCarthy, Democrats trying to oust Bob Menendez, and Rupert Murdoch retiring from Fox News at 92. All these guys have done bad things, whether starting a huge propaganda arm or being bribed by the Egyptian government, do any of them deserve our forgiveness?
Murdoch’s media empire, with holdings in newspapers, television, and film, has led to an unhealthy level of media concentration, limiting viewpoints and promoting their political agenda. They spend a significant amount of money influencing our elections and affecting our national policy for the worse.
Meanwhile, Kevin McCarthy, House majority leader and vocal opponent of many climate change initiatives and regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for example, is no perfect angel. But now he’s being criticized by the right for not embracing shutdowns as useful tools to remake government, not pursuing impeaching President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris hard enough, and not fully committing to Trump.
Lastly, Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey is pleading not guilty to bribery charges after nearly half a million dollars in cash was found in his home. Do any of these guys deserve our pity?
