Every day, across the country, police get access to private messages between people on any social media you can think of. This includes increasing ‘abortion investigations’ like one that happened most recently in Nebraska.
A Nebraska mom who was accused of helping her underage daughter have an abortion and getting rid of the fetus was sentenced to two years in prison this September. In July, the daughter was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to “a felony charge of removing, concealing or abandoning a dead human body.”
The country has punished people for stillbirths, miscarriages, and abortions, long before the overturning of Roe v. Wade and even while it was in place. According to Pregnancy Justice, about 1,400 people were investigated, arrested, or prosecuted between January 2006 and June 23, 2022, the day before Roe was overturned.
