Bernie Sanders is not one of them.
Earlier this month, as constituents called his office and Israel continued military strikes, killing more than 10,000 peopl the senator said to CNN “I don’t know how you can have a ceasefire, a permanent ceasefire, with an organization like Hamas, which is dedicated to turmoil and chaos and destroying the State of Israel.”
AIPAC quote tweeted his statement on Palestine and gave it the stamp of approval.
Around the same time, hundreds of former campaign works and staffers signed onto a letter calling on Bernie to stand for someone you don’t know and call for the end to the Gaza blockade and military ceasefire.
As many have pointed out, Sanders is in a unique position of being the angel on Biden’s shoulder, often advocating for more progressive measures that the president seems to take into consideration. Is not hard to imagine the senator playing the same role in this conflict, advocating for a position on ceasefire to represent his base, including the many Muslim-Americans who voted for him.
Should we be surprised?
