We now know a little more about how Israel weaponized lies about Hamas to justify genocide.

A correspondent for the privately owned Israeli news outlet i24NEWS, said in the video, viewed millions of times on X, that Israeli soldiers told her they’d found “babies, their heads cut off.” Then, in another post, she tweeted that soldiers told her they believed “40 babies/children were killed.”

That report, regurgitating unverified lines from the IDF, made it up to the highest offices and into headlines across the globe. “I never really thought that I would see and have confirmed pictures of terrorists beheading children,” said President Joe Biden.

Biden had simply picked up what even Netanyahu was saying when he told CNN that babies and toddlers were found with their “heads decapitated.” But by even the next day an Israeli official told CNN they could not confirm the claims of the beheadings. The police have no evidence to show this kind of large-scale massacre of children by Hamas.

Meanwhile, more than 6,600 Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since October 7. Now more than ever it's important to push back against misinformation.
