South Africa is bringing Israel to court claminig that the military campaign has breached of the 1948 Genocide Convention.
According to the convention, genocide is defined as a crime committed with the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, in whole or in part. South Africa states Israel's actions "are genocidal in character because they are intended to bring about the destruction of a substantial part" of Palestinians in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the US continues to fund the Israel miltiaries efforts. Just this part week Biden circumvented Congress to fund Israel’s war. The State Department announced that another $147.5 million had been dolled out for equipment in an emergency weapons sale to Israel.
South Africa’s filing also includes a request to order the court tell Israel “immediately suspend its military operations in and against Gaza.” Meanwhile, after public hearings, the court may taken on lengthy process of considering the full case. What should be done in the mean time?
