But while protests against the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people continue to grow in across college campuses and around the world, most mainstream news has been playing dumb about what the protests are about. Why would students occupy buildings?! Where have we ever seen this before in American history?!
Cody Johnston of Some More News is bitching about this feigned naivete from news outlets. One of the most remarkable things from a media/narrative perspective, is in fact how sophisticated these students are when it comes to message discipline and organization. These students have seen firsthand how our media works to delegitimize protests movements and have developed strategies to counter these efforts. They have appointed spokespeople, are media-trained, and have de-escalation tactics to help diffuse a situation with a counter-demonstrator.
But none of these methods go noticed by mainstream news outlets, who instead continue to paint them as idiot kids (Hillary Clinton), nuisances, or of course antisemitic agitators.
