as posted by the channelFor right wing culture warriors, there is no compromise. For a number of years, Democrats have been willing to fight for trans people. With the reelection of Donald Trump, and the ascendance of right wing culture warriors, that solidarity is quickly fading as Democrats would rather put this issue to bed so they can go back to their pro-corporate roots. Compromising with Republicans on this issue in practice translates to real harm on trans people being able to live and work freely.
When Democrats capitulate to Republican framing on the humanity of other people, it doesn’t put the issue to bed or make it less politically sensitive, it actually has the opposite effect. A willingness to compromise simply emboldens the right, showing them that Democrats aren’t willing to fight for this thing that they used to, and creates a permission structure for the further degradation of rights for all people.
