Journalist Andy Vasoyan joined Francesca to talk about ‘Freedom Cities’, and how the tech billionaires are trying to bring them to life.
Greenland has been in the news a ton recently, most notably because Donald Trump keeps talking about it. Trump claims that the nation of 56,000 people is important to the U.S. 's, “national security,” without offering any specific reasons why. One thing we do know about Trump is that he has taken a ton of money from the broligarchs, including guys from the PayPal Mafia like Peter Thiel.
It turns out Thiel has invested $525 million in a startup called Praxis. Praxis describes themselves as, “the world’s first Sovereign Network,” with the mission of reclaiming the West. To do that, they want to buy Greenland and turn it into their techo-monarchy city state. It turns out, Greenland isn’t interested in being bought. If anything, they want to become completely independent.
Now it makes sense why Trump is so obsessed with taking Greenland. He has to pay back his overlords for buying him the presidency.
