It would appear that, yes, yes they did. The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, reported being added to a Signal group chat by national security advisor Mike Waltz. In the chat, the likes of Pete Hegseth, JD Vance, and Stephen Miller were discussing the U.S.’s plans for bombing the Houthis in Yemen. Goldberg believed the chat was fake… until the bombings actually happened.
Naturally, Trump’s national security team responded how you would expect: Deny and deflect. Pete Hegseth when asked about the group chat blunder said, “The Atlantic is, you know, it's a liberal rag… Nobody was texting war plans,” Kinda hard to believe that The Atlantic is a, “liberal rag,” if you could accidentally add its editor-in-chief to the group chat. Waltz was clearly friendly with Goldberg.
This level of incompetence should come as no surprise to anyone. When you hire second-rate Fox News correspondents to run the national security apparatus, expect second rate results. The question now is whether or not anyone is going to be held responsible for the obvious intelligence disaster. The “but her emails” crowd is very quiet right now.
