as posted by the channelWill the attacks on higher education ramp up? The Trump regime has bent Columbia University to its will, as the university is complying with nearly all of Trump’s demands.
Trump has targeted the pro-Palestine protests at Columbia since day one of taking office. In an attempt to flex his authoritarian power, he has tried to make the university into a threatening example. It started with the illegal arrest of Mahmoud Khalil by ICE, followed by the pulling of $400 million in federal funding.
In order to get that money back Trump demanded Columbia comply with a laundry list of demands. This includes a mask ban on campus, the hiring of a vice provost to oversee the Department of Middle East, South Asian, African Studies, and the center for Palestine Studies, and increased arrest powers to campus police. Basically they have turned the campus into a mass surveillance police state, all to protect Israel’s feelings from being hurt.
Instead of standing up for its students and saying no to these ridiculous demands, Columbia caved. Because of their spinelessness in the face of fascism, ALL universities will be under attack by the Trump regime. It’s a bleak road ahead.
