Bernie Sanders was just on Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant podcast, and it was a bit of a mixed bag…
With Bernie’s FIghting Oligarchy tour being on a break, the Senator stopped by Andrew Schulz podcast. In case you don’t know, Schulz is a Trump-voting manosphere rube who is ticked off at the woke left for not liking his lazy jokes. He is the guy who makes the low hanging fruit comments for a reaction while his less famous friends laugh it up. So you can imagine how intellectually stimulating this conversation is going to be.
When asked by Schulz and crew about his presidential runs, Bernie agreed that the Democratic establishment played a role in derailing his candidacy. But then Schulz tried to make the conversation about how wokeness has come for the podcasts as well as for Bernie, and Bernie effectively agreed with him. Yeesh, you can do better than this Senator! Reframe! Reframe!
Bernie did suggest that empty identity politics can distract us from the more unifying class issues we face. But race and gender identity are just as much a part of the broader labor movement, and Bernie knows this. Just for further evidence, Francesca takes a deeper look into past comments and intellectual stabs that Schulz has taken.
