as posted by the channelJust when it seemed like the Supreme Court might reign in Trump’s overreach, they just handed him the power to do whatever he wants… for now.
The Supreme Court isn’t going to save us from authoritarianism. For a moment during Trump 2.0, it was looking like the court was trying to course correct. With the regime defying court orders left and right, the court issued some unexpected blows to Trump, including the 9-0 decision that said that Trump had to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the U.S. Well it looks like we might have gotten our hopes up too much.
Right before the Supreme Court ended its session for the summer, they leveled some devastating rulings in favor of Trump. The most notable of them being the 6-3 decision against the lower federal courts, stating that they do not have the authority to make unilateral injunctions against the president. This effectively allows Trump to issue any executive order he wants, and the lower courts are not allowed to stop him. How could that go wrong? Oh right, he has already issued an executive order ending birthright citizenship, despite it being IN THE CONSTITUTION!
It is important to note that the court hasn’t actually ruled on whether or not Trump’s executive order is constitutional. But stopping injunctions is a first step to getting rid of the rule of law altogether.
