It comes as no surprise that new mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani and his wife Rama Duwaji have been the targets of right wing vitriol. Also unsurprisingly, the form that hatred has taken towards Rama is bizarre, in a sexually represented sorta way. Mayor Mamdani recently posted a picture of Mahmoud Khalil and his family breaking fast at Gracie Mansion, but the right wing ghouls latched on to the weirdest detail from the picture.
In this photo of Mahmoud, Zohran, and Rama, right wing weirdos freaked out because you can see the slightest bit of Rama’s midriff. Naomi Wolf tweeted in disgust that Rama would dare to expose her navel on a Muslim holy day. Imagine being actually scandalized by seeing the barest hint of a woman’s midriff. Also, I thought all these freaks were against Muslim women being covered up?
