Journalist and host of the podcast Under the Shadow, Michael Fox, joined Francesca to talk about The Shield of the Americas and how it is being used to push Trump’s far right agenda into Latin America.
In March of 2026, Trump held a meeting of the Shield of the Americas in Doral, Florida, a group of Latin American leaders who have pledged to work with the U.S. to fight the drug cartels. Of course this is just a front for pushing America’s agenda of controlling Latin America by having willing partners in the region to do our bidding. But sure, let’s call it the War on Drugs!
This is a part of a disturbing trend of the right coming into power in Latin America. Chile literally just elected José Antonio Kast, whose father was part of the N*zi party in Germany before immigrating to the country. And with Trump’s military aggression in places like Venezuela and Ecuador, a lot of countries in the region are falling in line to avoid imperial violence.
