as posted by the channelAre the tides finally shifting in the Democratic party? More and more Democratic voters and representatives are openly opposing military aid to Israel. But is it enough?
Never in the history of the United States has there been more support for Palestine as there is right now. After years of Israeli destruction of Gaza and the West Bank, Democratic voters have woken up to the reality of how we have enabled this carnage. Senator Bernie Sanders has been leading efforts to stop all military aid to Israel, and lobby groups like AIPAC have become so toxic that they have to use shell groups to hide their donations. Most recently, 40 Democratic Senators voted to not send Israel more U.S. weapons. Even Cory Booker! The pressure is clearly working.
But is this shift enough? Those in senior leadership like Senator Chuck Schumer are still holding the party back. He has gloated about how it is America’s job to defend Israel. Kamala Harris has criticized Trump for getting led into war with Iran by Netanyahu, completely ignoring the irony of the Biden administration’s support for Israel. If the party is going to be a serious anti-war party, they need to kick these war hawks to the curb.
