The truth is, the warning signs were there for this candidate, but why did we ignore them? The online discourse about him was so poisoned it was often not okay to even just ask questions about him without getting piled on. Lance from The SerfsTV joined Francesa to talk about his perspective on the Platner campaign.
There is a lot of anger right now around Graham Platner, the people on the left who supported him, and those same supporters who now feel betrayed. And all of this is frankly understandable. Platner rode into the Democratic nomination for the senate based on the overwhelming desire to reshape our politics into one that works for everyday Americans. He talked the good talk when it came to ending genocide abroad, Medicare for All, and supporting working people. But should we have let him get that far with all his red flags?
While some on the left seem more interested in taking the “I told you so” victory lap, it is probably more productive to examine how we got here. Whether people like it or not, Platner did seem to have the best chance to unseat Senator Susan Collins, who is a fascist enabler who openly supports ICE, even after they killed someone in her state. When we are up against this level of state violence, it’s pretty easy to see how some on the left could put up blinders with Platner. The problem is, have we set the cause back by putting so much support behind him?
