12:40Now PlayingIt looks like Francesca Hong has lost her race for the governorship of Wisconsin. Is it because “Woke 1.0” went too far? That seems to be the thing the media is saying. And, of course, AOC has been roped into this discourse.
In a recent ABC interview, AOC was asked why she hadn’t endorsed Hong in the gubernatorial race in Wisconsin. She responded saying, “My focus has been in winning back the Congress, winning back the House, and positioning ourselves to have the best chance possible to win the Senate.” Makes sense since she is in Congress herself. But then she was asked about Hong’s “controversial” statements in the past about Thanksgiving, police abolition, and prison abolition and her answers were disappointing.
She said, “I have a local city councilman that has this saying, ‘woke one was crazy’.” It’s pretty wild to lump someone saying “Cancel Thanksgiving” with fundamentally changing our brutal police and prison system that continues to murder Black and brown people. Framing the conversation like this only serves to validate the status quo, and AOC shouldn’t fall into these traps.
