"Conscious Controversies: The Auction Block" delves deep into the realm of Black Art where creativity meets empowerment. I got the opportunity to produce a short documentary for my channel with YouTube Black and Hoorae Media (Issa Rae's production company) that premiered at the Black American Film Festival 2023. The project explores value, ownership and production of artistic means. Witness firsthand how Black artists break chains, shatter boundaries, and forge new paths through their art. I Join us as we redefine the status quo with a powerful message of resilience and transformation.
This Short film/Documentary explores dichotomy between celebrating black cultural products and truly supporting black cultural producers. We are joined by a distinguished panel of experts: Khalil Kinsey, a respected collector and owner; AJ Gerard, an innovative curator; and Storm Asher, a multifaceted painter, sculptor, and founder of Superposition Gallery. Together, they explore how art serves as a means of self-discovery, legacy-building, and a powerful tool for liberation within the black community.
We'll hear personal stories that underline the significance of art beyond its commercial value, touching on themes like the transformative power of art, afrofuturism, and the challenges and triumphs of black artists in contemporary society. Through their insights and experiences, our guests will help us reimagine a world where black individuals not only create but also control and own their narratives and creations.
