Texas Democrat slams requiring schools to display Ten Commandments in classrooms'UnAmerican'
"AUSTIN, Texas (TND) — A state lawmaker in Texas is voicing opposition to a bill that would insert displays of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, calling the proposal both "deeply un-Christian" and "un-American."
Democratic State Rep. James Talarico, D-Austin, is accusing Texas Republicans of "trying to force public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom" with Senate Bill 1515 and its companion House Bill 3448.
The Senate bill would mandate that elementary and secondary schools in the Lone Star State "display in a conspicuous place in each classroom" a "durable poster" or "framed copy" of the Ten Commandments."
