"A campaign adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence took a potshot at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for initiating the removal of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday.
Gaetz filed a motion to vacate the chair after McCarthy used Democratic votes to avert a government shutdown over the weekend. The Florida Republican has said McCarthy breached the terms of an agreement they made in January that allowed him to ascend to the speakership. Just eight Republicans voted to remove McCarthy on Tuesday, but that was more than enough with all Democrats voting to do so.
The final tally was 216 to 210 in favor of removal.
Short, who served as Pence’s chief-of-staff when he was vice president, appeared on Wednesday’s installment of The Lead, where Jake Tapper asked about the unusual dynamic."
