Omar shrugs off 'insane' Greene censure push over mistranslated video
"Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is brushing off a new push to censure her championed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), that focuses on recent mistranslated remarks in which the Somali-born progressive talks about her support for Somalian Americans.
Greene is introducing her Omar censure proposal as a privileged resolution, which would require the House to act on it within two legislative days — teeing up a vote sometime next week.
The measure accuses Omar of making "treasonous statements" in her Jan. 27 speech, a reference to a viral video clip of mistranslated remarks alleging that the Democratic lawmaker was vowing to protect Somali interests from inside America. It would also remove Omar from her spots on the House Budget and Education and Workforce Committees.
Omar promptly disavowed what she has said was a mis-translation of her remarks that took them out of context. The video's claims are "not only slanted but completely off," she posted on X, formerly known as Twitter."
