Biden received heavy criticism from members of his own party due to his debate performance, leading to many Democrats publicly and privately calling for him to step back from the race. During the debate, the president struggled to answer questions coherently and had a horsed voice.
The New York Times editorial board on Friday called for Biden to step aside from the race and let another Democrat run against Trump before the DNC convention.
