Justice warns Republicans’ SNAP plans could cost them their majority
"Sen. Jim Justice (R-W.Va.) is warning that Republicans’ proposal to force states to help pay for the country’s largest food aid program could cost the party their congressional majority.
“If we don’t watch out, people are going to get hurt, people are going to be upset. It’s going to be the No.1 thing on the nightly news all over the place,” Justice said in an interview Tuesday. “And then, we could very well awaken to a situation in this country where the majority quickly becomes the minority.”
House Republicans’ reconciliation plan would force states to take on part of the cost of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. States with higher SNAP payment error rates will be hit with a higher percentage of the bill."
