Trump wishes onetime foil Taylor Swift ‘a lot of luck’ on her engagement
"President Donald Trump, an avid commentator on popular culture, weighed in on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s upcoming nuptials on Tuesday, striking a conciliatory tone for the pop superstar he has clashed with in the past.
“I wish them a lot of luck,” Trump told reporters during a Cabinet meeting. “I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy. I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”
Swift — whose mega stardom reached new heights during the global Eras Tour that ended last December — and the three-time Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs tight end announced their engagement in twin Instagram posts on Tuesday.
But Trump’s tune on Swift was different while on the campaign trail last year.
“I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!,” he posted on Truth Social after Swift endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris in September 2024. Trump also said on Fox that he preferred the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Brittany, and predicted Swift’s political leanings would cost her financially. Trump posted this May “Has anyone noticed that, since I said “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,” she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”"
