The REAL Reason Scientists Know Aliens Are Real

95% of what drives the universe is something we cannot see, cannot detect, and cannot explain. Neil deGrasse Tyson, America's most famous astrophysicist and Director of the Hayden Planetarium, says that everything humans know and love about biology, chemistry, physics, food, molecules, solids, liquids, gas, all of it, accounts for just 5% of what is happening in the universe. The other 95% is divided between dark energy (a mysterious pressure making the universe expand faster than gravity should allow) and dark matter (a source of gravity with no known cause).

He walks Steven through the Big Bang, explaining that 13.8 billion years ago, everything in the universe began in an infinitesimally small point of pure energy. As it expanded and cooled, that energy became matter (Einstein's E=MC squared). Stars formed, galaxies formed, and the expansion continues today, accelerating for reasons nobody understands. The discovery that the universe is speeding up rather than slowing down won a Nobel Prize in 1998 and remains one of the biggest unsolved problems in science.
