23:22Now PlayingThe relationship between the United States and Canada is getting more tense, and this time the fight involves a major new bridge, toll revenue, wildfire smoke, and even more tariff threats.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says the United States will not receive any share of toll revenue from the Gordie Howe International Bridge until Canada’s debt and construction costs have been repaid. Canada financed the project, and while the U.S. is expected to receive a share of net revenue later, Carney is making it clear that Canada gets paid first. 0
At the same time, Donald Trump is blaming Canada for wildfire smoke drifting into American cities and is threatening to add the alleged cost of that pollution to tariffs on Canadian goods. Canadian officials are pushing back, arguing that they are already spending billions fighting fires and that wildfires are a shared North American problem, not something that can simply be punished with another tariff. 1
In this video, we’re talking about what these disputes reveal about the deteriorating U.S.-Canada relationship, who could ultimately pay the price, and what continued escalation could mean for workers, truckers, businesses, and communities on both sides of the border.
