Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) discusses new immigration proposal

As the men and women on the front lines of the border crisis deal with an overwhelming number of migrants trying to enter the United States, they continue to ask for more resources and for Congress to act.

But is reform possible with this hot button issue?

Two lawmakers on opposite sides of the aisle say they've come up with a solution.

In an op-ed published in the New York Times, Republican congressman Peter King and Democratic congressman Tom Suozzi, who both represent districts in Long Island, lay out a

Pi-partisan plan.

It would create a path to citizenship, offer some temporary protections, fund physical barriers and provide aid to the Northern Triangle countries of Central America.

Congressman Suozzi joined Rising from Capitol Hill to expand on the proposal.

He's a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and previously served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
