1:23:56Now PlayingPresident Biden is set to host Kenyan President William Ruto and his wife Rachel Ruto Thursday at the White House.
The May 23rd visit will mark the 60th anniversary of U.S.-Kenya diplomatic relations, according to the Biden administration. Biden is expected to inform Congress that he will designate Kenya as a major non-NATO ally, a designation that comes with special privileges, according to a senior administration official.
The designation comes as Kenya has stepped up to lead the deployment of a multinational police force to Haiti, where armed gangs have taken over the capital of Port-au-Prince and have plunged the Caribbean nation into a humanitarian crisis.
The event is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. EDT.
