The speech will be his first public statement since his announcement Sunday that he will not seek reelection, and is endorsing Vice President Harris as the nominee at the top of the 2024 Democratic Party ticket.
The president returned to Washington Tuesday after spending several days recuperating from a COVID-19 infection at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
Democratic leaders have quickly consolidated their support for Harris. The vice president now has the backing of enough delegates to secure the vote at the party’s convention in August.
Republicans have adjusted their strategy and messaging this week, with calls for Biden to resign from office immediately. The White House has emphatically stated that Biden plans to serve until the end of his term.
The address is scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT.
