Makary, a Johns Hopkins’s surgeon who has espoused contrarian views about the COVID-19 pandemic, including penning op-eds about the low risk of vaccinating children and pushing back against the FDA’s decision to pause the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine due to the threat of blood clots.
If confirmed, he will serve under the direction of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — known to be a vaccine skeptic — and play a vital role in responding to the deadly measles outbreak and spread of the bird flu virus.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
