7:20Now PlayingSenate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other top Democrats will make remarks Wednesday afternoon in response sweeping tariffs imposed on global trading partners by the Trump administration.
Their remarks come just an hour after President Trump issued a 90-day pause on latest reciprocal tariffs on foreign imports began overnight. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and economists have warned of potential adverse effects of increased import taxes on the U.S. economy and consumer prices.
It also follows last week’s introduction of bipartisan legislation in the upper chamber that would require the White House to receive Congressional approval to issue new tariffs. Democrats are pressing their GOP colleagues to hold a hearing on the president’s tariff agenda amid a growing trade war.
The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.
