YouTube Description
as posted by the channelWhite House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will brief reporter Friday afternoon as tensions rise between the U.S. and China amid a growing trade war.
President Trump earlier this week increased import taxes on Beijing by more than 100 percent — bringing the total tariffs, added to already existing taxes, to 145 percent. China responded in kind overnight, hiking its retaliatory tariffs up to 125 percent.
The back-and-forth comes after Trump announced a 90-day pause on his latest round of tariffs for nearly all trading partners, but notably left China out of the deal.
The White House briefing also comes after the Supreme Court issued key rulings in cases related to a wrongful deportation and the administration's use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to speed up Trump's sweeping immigration agenda.
The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
