25:44Now PlayingHouse Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) will speak to reporters Thursday afternoon as the GOP presses forward with President Trump’s robust legislative agenda.
On Wednesday, Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced legislation containing steep cuts to Medicaid and health care provisions — some of the most controversial provisions in the bill. Democrats have pushed back on the funding cuts and the GOP’s efforts to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts.
Jeffries has railed against the president’s policies since returning to office over 100 days ago, from slashing diversity, equity and conclusion (DEI) programs to Trump’s immigration crackdown to the Department of Government Efficiency‘s (DOGE) overhaul of the federal workforce and beyond.
His comments also come as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) signaled support for a stock trading ban on sitting members of Congress, something the minority leader has also pushed for.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.
