Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who will lead the remarks, has been an outspoken critic of the legislation — which the Congressional Budget Office estimates will add $2.4 trillion to the deficit over the next decade — and the Trump administration’s process for appointing judicial nominees.
“When it comes to judges, Trump only cares about one thing: Will they bow before him? Will the break precedent and overturn rule of law to appease him? That’s what he wants, but that’s not democracy,” Schumer wrote Wednesday on social platform X. “The Senate must reject these MAGA loyalists dressed up as jurists.”
On Wednesday, the Democratic leader gave the bill a new nickname: “Well, We’re All Going to Die Act” — a subtle swing at a controversial comment made by his Republican colleague Sen. Joni Ernst (Iowa) related to the Medicaid cuts.
The Democrats’ remarks are scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. EDT.
