27:49Now PlayingPresident Trump is set to sign the GOP’s “big, beautiful bill” into law Friday afternoon from the White House.
House Republicans passed the massive spending and tax package on Thursday after tense debate, and just a day after the Senate moved the legislation — with many changes from the original blueprint — following weeks of internal battles over cuts to Medicaid and the federal food stamp program, an extension on 2017 tax breaks and how much provisions within the megabill could add to the national debt.
Still, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) kept to their word of having the reconciliation package on Trump’s desk by the July 4 deadline.
Trump will sign the bill as he hosts an Independence Day picnic for military families.
The signing ceremony is expected to begin at 5 p.m. EDT.
