Even as recovery efforts continued in Texas, another historic flood in the Village of Ruidoso, New Mexico, reportedly claimed three lives on July 8.
The news has sparked questions around the Trump administration’s moves to cut climate research and jobs at the agency deemed crucial to weather forecasting.
Sen. Ben Lujan (D-NM) questioning Jacobs about the nominee's apparent role, while serving as acting NOAA administrator during Trump's first term, in supporting media messaging considered inaccurate. Jacobs asserted that he would now likely handle the situation — known as "Sharpiegate" — differently, and said if confirmed he intends to perform his duties independent of political influence.
