as posted by the channelHouse Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will speak with reporters Wednesday morning after both chambers of Congress overwhelming voted to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
The bill, which will compel the Justice Department to release all files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, now heads to President Trump’s desk for a signature. The president has indicated that he will sign it quickly, but Jeffries suggested earlier Tuesday that Attorney General Pam Bondi could still try to block the movement of files.
His remarks also come as health care premiums that were brought to light during the 43-day government shutdown fight continue to rise despite Democrats’ demands for an extension on Affordable Care Act subsidies that will expire at the end of the year. Jeffries was a vocal advocate for the extension, even as Trump has floated working with Democrats to alleviate pressure.
The New York Democrat is also facing a potential primary challenge from a progressive candidate, which Jeffries said he welcomes.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. EST.
