One in four Americans today is a family caregiver – someone who helps an aging parent, a spouse, or a loved one with a disability live as independently as possible. They manage everything from meals and doctor's visits to bills and daily care, often while juggling jobs and raising children of their own. These unpaid responsibilities come at a steep cost as caregivers spend over $7,200 annually – 26% of their income – out of pocket each year, straining their own financial security as prices for groceries, health care, and utilities continue to rise.

New state-by-state data from AARP sheds light on the scale of caregiving and the toll it takes on families across the nation. Additionally, bipartisan solutions are gaining traction, from a caregiver tax credit to allowing use of FSA and HSA funds for a parent’s care. During his campaign President Trump called for a national tax credit for caregivers and with 84% of voters supporting such policies, caregiving is fast becoming a political priority
